Hi All,I'm still looking for a decent Qx4, and came across 2 being sold by the same used cars dealer who imports cars from the US of A (usually from copart or iaai)

1) Qx4 2001 - ABS sensor issue, front driver + front driver motor problem (moves up and down, not forward/backward), both airbags deployed, CD player issue (Err2) and A/C compressor problem, for AED 24,000, but with a low mileage of 83,000 miles

2) Qx4 2002 - no problems whatsoever, but a mileage of 143,000 miles, and the price of AED 28,000

If I'm going to buy the first one, I'll get it repaired by the Infiniti service center, because I know they'll do a good job (my brother has a Fx35, other brother has a Murano, and I've got a Tiida), but the fact that it has so many issues is creepy, but the second Qx4 has a high mileage. And the 2WD/4WD indicator goes off once in a while...the salesman says its related to the ABS sensor, which he'll replace.

What do you suggest I go for?

Came across this thread while researching the reliability of the QX4 ('01). I'm searching for a QX4 locally but I have yet to come across one in a good condition.

That is a tough decision.

It depends on what you are willing to do to the vehicle once you get it.

Are you willing to replace airbags, seat motors/seats, stereo head unit, and AC compressor? Are those things you would be willing to do yourself to save some money? Would the cost to have it done by the dealer be small enough to keep it worth the price? Would saving the money for repairs on the lower mileage one help you in the future?

I have a 2004 pathfinder with just shy of 150k miles on it. At 13x,xxx miles, the transmission failed and cost me nearly $3,000 USD to have it replaced. Now I paid for top of the line service, but it is still an expensive repair. If either Qx4, especially the higher mileage one, has evidence of being used to tow frequently, then I would avoid that one altogether.

Depending on how the '02 was treated and serviced, it could give you lots of problems or none at all. These are very good vehicles if properly maintained and not abused too much, but are expensive to repair if someone else did not care for them. Inspect for any collision damage since the airbags were deployed.

Personally, I would go for whichever one looks better and has the features that I want. Either one you choose is likely going to have some problems. Look over both engines for signs of any sort of leak. Drive them both and gas it hard and brake hard a few times so you can get a feel for how they shift and any shakes or wobbles when braking. Pay attention to any rattles or squeaks you hear.

The original post is from 2010.
He's probably made a decision by now.

I don't know, there's about a 10 year spread between his first post and his current one responding to himself that he's still searching for one locally. Maybe he's a little picky.

Haha maybe he is a little bit picky.

I don’t care how long in between posts it’s been. If he’s a person asking a question here, he’ll get an answer from me if I see the thread.

Haha, I hadn't noticed it was the same username.

Hey guys, I did! I bought a 2001.5 QX4 with 225,000 miles two weeks ago. It was exported from California in 2013 with 190,000 miles and it has a few cosmetic problems such as the front passenger seat being torn on the side, and the climate control buttons falling off (it has the stock navigation system that I'd like to replace).

This forum has been of immense help!

Great to see the '01 trucks are still in demand, mine recently hit 200k and I appreciate what a great truck it is more than ever.

I had the same issue with the factory nav buttons falling off, and with a fair amount of trouble was able to replace it with an Android head unit that really rocks. There's a long meandering thread here on doing this, let me know if I can be of any help.

Haha, yeah. I lost interest in getting a 4WD and purchased and sold other cars in between. And I finally got one that wasn't a salvage.
