QX4 1998, 180,000km is almost gone

Hi all,

I was really enjoying this forum for the past few months, unfortunately i had an accident yesterday, someone hit my car from rear and the chassis and frame is bended, i went to the garage of my insurance company today and i don't think they are going to fix it, they were talking French (living in Montreal) and i didn't get much, but they were talking about the car market value something...

what do you guys advise me to do? what offer i have to go with? and how much is the value of the car now (my car was in the mint condition with all service history etc..., just a little bubble was appearing in the front fender)?

aw man dont know about your area but suv's have gotten cheap in my area. QX4's with that kind of mileage go for $5500 to $8000 USD

Which means they are easily totalled. With significant body damage like you described, I imagine insurance will be cutting you a check. (if you have the coverage)

A good rule of thumb is that if the repair costs reach half of the vehicles market value, it becomes a total loss.

i'd be happy with 7500 cad but wouldn't be surprised if they offered you as low as 5000

yeah, i will fight for 7500-8000, today they gave me a liberty 2008 to drive and it costs them 100 a day so they have to finish it as soon as they can...

i had anopther 2001 pathfinder that i had rolled last november.

i got $10,500 for it and bought this black one i had originally bought it for 9000 so i made 1500 from the insurance claim.

but just as fueler said with the suv market the way it is I pray you get some decent cash

thanks slickroger, was there any negotiation and pull n push or they offered you 10500 as the first offer? pls advise if any tips or tricks in dealing with insurance companies, mine is Belairdirect in montreal...

just an update, the insurance offered me 7450.01 CAN, haha, i asked the agent what the 1 cent is for???

so for those of you tired of your rigs, go and hit them somewhere, insurance is paying better than dealers... just joking.

Well at least you can probably get another one for that price. Unfortunately it may not be exactly as nice as your old one was.

You NEVER win with insurance companies. NEVER! It's pretty much a case of 'you get some money' for your car...not what it was worth.

yes, i found a 98, 1 owner with 180,000km, some rust on the fender, i didn't see the interior because it was dark, will go to see it again.
