QX 4 Rear hatch cant get to open

I have 1999 QX4 I cant get the rear hatch to open....the electric hatch switch works and the manual key unlock works, the hatch opens just a little bit but will release....anyone have any suggestions on what my next move should be...I pried a little on it didn't want to break something until I got a better handle on it.

How did you determine the electric hatch switch works? If you hear it clicking it may be triggering but not actually unlocking. What happens if you pull on the hatch while someone else pulls on the switch?

yep we tried that.... we even tried a little pressure with a pry bar... didn't work... just wont unlatch

Sounds silly, but try spraying a little lubrication on the latch if you can. Some guys on NPORA had some ridiculous passenger door issues where kneeing it, kicking it, prying it, verbally abusing it, pulling panels, and a bunch of other totally reasonable approaches failed miserably, yet spraying some stuff in there did it like it was nothing. Doesn't make sense to me, but hey, nothing to lose at this point.
