The AP reported Jane Fonda has complained to the press that she felt she was banned by QVC solely because of her controversial political past. The network claimed it was a routine programming change, but later acknowledged they received many complaint calls by viewers threatening to cancel their accounts if they air her inewest nformercial because her actions 40 years ago.
For those that may not remember Jane Fonda, she is the daughter of Henry Fonda, sister of Peter Fonda (Easy Rider), ex-wife of Ted Turner, and is/was an attractive, famous actress who took her strong anti-Vietnam war opinions to an extreme. She was dubbed "Hanoi Jane" after travelling to North Vietnam during the Vietnam war. She met and was voluntarily filmed with North Vietnamese officials, laughing/clapping with them while sitting on an anti-aircraft gun, all while US troops were getting killed just a few miles away. It was, IMHO, one of the more appalling, disrespectful, and downright stupid ways to protest the war. Needless to say she did not endear herself with military families, veterans, particularly those who lost loved ones in that war. She went on to a long successful acting career, as well as making one of the bigger selling excersize video's of all time (though it later came out her great figure benefitted from plastic surgery in addition to her workouts.)
If I remember, the closest she ever got to officially apologizing for being a turd way back then was in her 2006 autobiography, where she labelled it "that 2 minute lapse of sanity that will haunt me until the day I die."
I'm obviously not a fan of hers, but do you guys agree with QVC?
