Both of my Nissans (metallic blue Altima and black Rogue) have scratches of varying degrees. I'm looking for the best solution I can do myself, and I've seen the best recommendations for Quixx, Scratch-X, and Dr ColorChip.

Most of the scratches are fairly shallow -- some you can feel but others are merely visible and have little to no depth to them. Most are an inch to a few inches in length, but the Rogue recently got one down the entire passenger side -- front fender to rear bumper (most likely one of our little ones walking through the garage carelessly handling a backpack).

So, is there a consensus favorite of members of this forum? I'd also be happy to know if I should buy one product for light scratches and another for the deeper ones, or if there's an alternative out there I'm not considering (other than going to a paint shop). Apologies to anyone also on the Altima forum, as I'm posting the same question there, but I appreciate any advice you guys (and gals) can offer.

I have heard okay things about Dr. Colorchip and Quixx. I have tried Quizz and I am not really happy with it. It did not fully cover the scratch and what little it did when away after a few washes. Scratch X will level the paint down so its nice and even therefore hiding the scratch a little better than the other two products. The other two products must contain filler at least I am sure Quixx does.

Scratch X is something you have to be careful with though.

Can you post up pictures?

I've had success with Scratch-X. But your best bet is to go to www.autopia.com, a detailing forum I frequent and ask this question over there or just read the threads. They are very informative over there and I've seen several threads on scratch removal. They'll give you some excellent tips and or advice.

Thanks for the link and advice. Didn't get home from work before dark and wasn't able to get any photos. I'm just looking for general advice, however, and between this and the Altima forum I visit I think I have some good info to go on.

I have used Scratch-X with great success in areas like underneath the door handles. This spot gets scratched easily by fingernails. With this stuff, you can just rub them away. I also follow up with a good coat of wax. I prefer meguires most of the time, FWIW.

CORRECTION: The URL for the detailing forum is actually http://www.autopia.org/

The .com site specializes in the automation dental offices :ohno:

I did a quick search on Autopia on Quixx, Scratch-X and Dr Colorship. Got the most hits on Dr Colorchip. It seems to be the most widely discussed from the threads I've read. I personally haven't used any of these products so I can't offer any first hand experience. Anyway... here’s a link to some threads on Autopia searching on Dr Colorchip:
