I need a quiet muffler single in dual out 2.5" and I prefer stainless steel. I'm thinking about the Borla XS 40348.

Anyone have another suggestion for a quiet 2.5" muffler for my S13?

Thanks!-VA240

It's not stainless steel, but what about the Dynomax Super Turbo 17758?

Hi VA240; I'm looking exactly for that and my experimenting and search has been long. I found that apparently one of the quietest performance mufflers out there is Dynomax Super Turbo, but the model 17758 is 20" long and you gonna have a hard time fitting that, probably not possible.

I've sent for model 17761, it's a replacement for Corvette and has a 2.5" inlet with dual stainless outlets. I also sent for the 24236, which is a 2.5" diameter and 18" long Bullet muffler to use as resonator. This is very recommended to take maybe 6 or 7 decibels out of the final sound.

The 17761 is 14" long, the correct lenght, and has their flow directors. I don't know if I'm going to modify the stainless spouts, but surely it's gonna be durable. It's $126 at Jeg's and the Bullet is like $47. I think this is the quietest performance setup we can get, unless you can send for a Genie Tornado or turbo muffler. Genie comes out as one of the best, but it's an Australian product and could be expensive on shipping.

If you go with this let me know how it sounds, you'll probably get them before me.

I've got the BRM stainless steel S13 system and I need to quiet it down a bit!

I found out that Magnaflow makes a stainless steel resonator up to 26" in length (mines 18") so I think I might order one and have a local shop replace the resonator.

It's a Magnapack part#14501.

i had that setup on my ka, its excellent. I like it bc it would be quiet at low rev and would be loud at around 3.5k+. When u rev it high it sounds like the engine is roaring. id recommend that if your going n/a. oh and you get some low end gain btw.

edit: o sry thought u wanted an exhaust upgrade =D

Hello again VA: If you already have an 18" resonator, adding a few inches won't get to quiet the system much, unless it's a different type. You'll need another make or style of muffler; I still recommend the Super Turbo, but you could try some of the others told here, the HKS looks good.

Dynomax has another option the 17674 is a 3" in, 2-1/2" out in at 13" case. Since it's smaller they didn't use directors, it's more of a dog-leg design, and so it has the strongest sound of their turbos. It's quieter than the straight-thrus, but better flowing than the other turbos.

You have a 3rd option VA240, something I will consider if my future setup is still loud, you could go with a welded Ultraflow to use as resonator. Model 17218 is the 2.5", center-center, with 14x9.75x4.5 case aprox. I think welded because its cheaper than the stainless one.

This is like the last resort; it's bigger, heavier, and more expensive than a Bullet, plus it could be hard to fit, although I think it can be done. It's the quietest it will get, maintaining good flow; don't forget to install the side hanger at the resonator place, it prevents exhaust racking.

Yeah, well, some of us would like it nice and quiet.
