well my friends nissan 240SX is having some problems that is making him drive his moms car because its so inoperable to drive!

bone stock KA.

well for one, it BARELY starts up, and when it does, he needs to keep on the gas constantly, or the car will die down, we think its an alternator probably? and probably a new battery.

but we have many friends that help us out to jump the car if it bogs down and dies.

the REAL problem is the overheating issue! and when its overheating, the heat that is supposed to come out is ICE COLD! when we start up the car we let it run for a couple minutes to let it warm up. but when driving, it will go and overheat! like very badly, the needle will go higher then the H. and everytime we check the radiator, the coolant///water is gone! (we started using water because obviously we dont have 10 bucks to blow on coolant every other day!)

i know this was probably not too descriptive but if you need more info just post back!

overheating issue sounds like when your filling with coolant your not getting all the air out of the system you have to bleed all the air out of the system or it will overheat an or the heat will not work

The first problem doesnt really sound like an alternator. My alternator went out once and the car just wouldnt stay on, but when it was on, it wouldn;t rev past 3k. So that really doesnt sound like an electrical problem. Maybe the Fuel pump? I'm not sure about that problem.

As for the overheating. Replace the thermostat and the water pump (its really easy and fairly cheap). When the job is completly done, raise the front end of the car, fill it with water/coolant, and idle the car with the radiator cap off. This will bleed the cooling system allowing all the air pockets out. Then put the cap back on and yours good to go. If you gget air in the cooling system, the car will overheat rapidly, but will also cool down just as fast. Just like a hot spike.Good luck
