I scored on finding a wrecked 94 dohc s13 coupe and want those cams for my s14. What's the super fast removal steps and tools needed. Thanks. Yeah, I could go step by step with my FSM, but if it can be quick let me know. Also, it was an automatic... Do you think it'll have the vlsd?

take a pry bar and break the timing chain. then, unbolt the caps and that the cams home.

U can just pull the valve cover and all the caps, lift the cam(s) out from the back towards the front and it will let the chain drop down. U don't need to try breaking the chain, what a f$cking idiot.

yeah, all you really need is a 10mm and some type of cutters for the chain if it becomes a problem.

27mm? for what? theres no way your getting the cam gears off at the jy without compressed air. just cut the chain and pull them out.

You could do it with another wrench holding the cam in place while you turn the 27mm....couldn't you?

dude if u take all the cam caps off u can lift both cams out from the back to the front and the chain will slide off the gears, its that easy, I guess no one read the 3rd post or something.

You my friend are a sad excuse for a male. Anything can be done without air tools. But I suppose if you have no muscles, air tools would be a must have. can you take off all of your wheels one after the other? just playin. well for my single, if I remember correctly, I had to put a bar or something in one of the holes on the cam gear so it wouldn't move while unbolting it... not sure if that would work on a de. but its an idea.

i was actually afraid of rounding off the spot for the wrench on the cam itself.its also a little weird pulling on one wrench and pushing on the other.

I ussed a 10mm and a set of bolt cutters when I pulled some altima cams last summer.

Not to be critical... but who the hell uses the timing chain over again out of a motor that is not working, and that you are allowed to pull cams from?? If that motor is ever gonna fire again... It will be due to a complete rebuild, and oh yeah they need cams now that youre done too. Why would I waste two seconds of my time trying to save that used chain instead of using bolt cutters?... again, sorry if that sounded like a rant, but that is what i have learned from my local parts yards.

Also, take the valve cover too if it is still there. They make good holders for the cams untill you put them in. Plus then you have a spare to get painted / powdercoated if you ever feel the need to do that in your car's engine bay.

it takes longer to cut the chain than it does to lift the cams out from the back to front. U don't have to do absoultely anything to the chain to get them out. U still have to take all the cam caps off to get the cams out in the fist place either way u do it, why worry about cutting something when its not needed.

Stupid internet! It went down for like four days. I was wondering why no one responded to my post. Then I look today and there's a ton of tips and even some flaming entertainment. I must have forgot to subscribe to the thread or something. Thanks so much for all your help guys. I'll go back there with the sockets. I'll bring a prybar and bolt cutter, just in case the chain doesn't fall off easily!

Big wrench think 15/16??? big soxket 1/2" with 27mm socket.. Undo rod caps and your good. Although someone said you can tilt it to the front so no need to loosen anything but the rod caps...
