Well thats all about timing...
Practice rev matching your downshifts, and practice Heel-toe. it will really help you learn to shift properly.
When i started to learn to rev match I double clutched.
To double clutch..
On down shift you will punch the clutch, kick the shifter into neutral. (synchronized motion) then press the clutch smoothly, blip the gas pedal with your right foot in order to rev the engine with the clutch pressed, and then drop into a lower gear.
The object is to match the rpms, so when you release the clutch there is little to no fluctuation in engine rpms and you get a smooth shift.
Heel-toe is the same principle, but you are braking at the same time. It had the advantage of allowing you to brake much later than normal, as you can brake AND shift in one motion, all while keeping the car balanced.
To do this say your cruising in 3rd and your turning about 5-6k rpms (quite up there)
-Apply firm, steady, and accurate braking pressure with the ball/toe of your right foot (try all this in a parking lot first...in a lower gear maybe)
-While continuing to maintain brake pressure, clutch with your left foot and begin your shifting motion.
-While continuing to maintain brake pressure , your going to pivot your right foot so your toe is still on the brake, but your heel is over the gas.
-While continuing to maintain brake pressure with your toe/ball of right foot, blip the gas with your heel as the shifter passes through neutral. (takes timing and practice)
-Once you enter your target gear, release the clutch, release the brake and get back on the gas with smoooth throttle.
Drill those things, and all your shifting will improve greatly and people may begin to comment about the smoothness of your driving
