So my alty is now about 5600 km and the info that I find are all different on if wether I can ride it longer or not before doing an oil change. That would be the first oil change but I also heard the little metal residue thing isn't true anymore(?).

Anyway the thing is, I'm required to go see family outside of town this weekend (like tomorrow!!) and it would be about a 800 km ride total (to go and get back home).

Basically I want to know if it would be reasonnable to make her drive this distance before her first oil change or it would be very bad and stupid to consider it?

In case it makes a difference, the ''5600km'' have been cumulated in about 10 months so she doesn't get to go outside that often since it's more conveniant for me to take the metro/subway for my regular week moves.

I wouldnt mess around with it.

Nothing wrong with doing the car's first oil change early. Now if he was doing 1000mi intervals, that would be overkill.

Just my personal opinion, but its always a good idea to make sure your car is tip top before you take her on a long road trip.

If you change it now, what have you got to loose?

If you dont change it now, what have you got to lose. I mean I really dont think your engine is gonna blow up or anything if you don't, but it really wouldn't hurt.

Also my personal routine is I change the oil every six months-ish. I DO use sythetic oil so it does last longer that the organic stuff. If I drive it ALOT during the summer I may change it a third time... Like the time I drove from Seattle to Chicago and back... I changed it 3 times that year. That was my old Altima I put 98k miles on it in seven years and she ran as good as day one when I sold it. I have yet to change the oil on my new A/C,. But I have only diven it 1000 miles since I bought it. I plan on doing the same routine.

Hope that helps, drive safe!

1k is way early in my opinion. Personally I dont think the engine has fully broken in by that mileage and there will still be some bits of stuff that will get dislodged and into the oil.

Mine gets changed about every 10 weeks, or ~ 5500 miles. I drive about 500 miles a week.
