I'm swapping my clutch right now and I just have one question... I have the driveshaft outta the transmission and all the wires disconnected, the only thing I can't get out is one bolt on near the top of the transmission on the exhaust side. At least I think that's the last one. I can't get a socket or wrench up there does anyone know any alternative other than dropping the exhaust header off in order to get to it? Thanks!

ratcheting wrenches take em right off. use a jack and a prybar to jack up the ratchet from underneath the engine. look at the transmission swap s14 sticky for a pick of this

Be careful as I feel into this trap on my 89, and I don;t know which you're doing this on or if later models are the same but...theres another bolt that the head faces towards the front of the car - my bro and I missed it and for the longest while couldn't understand why the transmission wasn't coming out.

Anyways its right there with all the rest of them... just easy to miss because you're looking at the back of the bellhousing at all the bolts...then theres this sucker on the front side.

To gain more room, unbolt the transmission from the transmission crossmember. Then, jack up the tail of the transmission as far as it goes. That should give you more room between the firewall and the bellhousing.

I got that bolt out using a 3 ft extension and a 3/8" swivel extension and now I can't seem to get the transmission to slide out of the engine. I counted 12 bolts I had taken off including the two from the starter so I think I have them all? How do you get the transmission off?

sorry about the n00b questions I've never done this before

sometimes you have to use a pry bar around the bell housing to start the transmission moving. It has 2 guides that align it and sometimes they are tight. Just proceed very slowly, and work your way around the bell housing. If you have all the bolts out, including the ones that face the engine compartment, it should slide out. Getting it back in is another story, lol.
