I know there is a tire forum, but it isn't very busy, so I thought I would throw this out out to the Q45 family. I blew out one of my Bridgestone 050A's tonight. At least I am pretty sure it is history. The tires have about 10k on them at this point, still have tread but I have had them for 4 years and have the bug for some fresh rubber.

So I'm thinking of doing the XL 98 load rating this time as I used 94 which is okay, but the 98's seem like the way to go. So Bridgestone 050A Pole Positions
Size: 245/40R19
Sidewall Style: Blackwall
Serv. Desc: 98W
Load Index 98 = 1653lbs (750kg) per tire
Speed Rating "W" = 168mph (270kph)
Load Range: XL
UTQG: Treadwear: 140
Traction: A
Temperature: A
140 A A

or

Goodyear GS-D3 Size: 245/40ZR19
Sidewall Style: Blackwall
Serv. Desc: 98YLoad Index 98 = 1653lbs (750kg) per tire
Speed Rating "Y" = 186mph (300kph)
Load Range: XL
UTQG: Treadwear: 280
Traction: AA
Temperature: A
280 AA A
The Goodyear's are on closeout at $315 per tire which is a good price for XL load tires.

One other thing I saw but don't know anything about yet, new Bridgestone R11, which are not XL rated, but new model
Size: 245/40R19
Sidewall Style: Blackwall
Serv. Desc: 94W
Load Index 94 = 1477lbs (670kg) per tire
Speed Rating "W" = 168mph (270kph)
UTQG: Treadwear: 180
Traction: A
Temperature: A
180 A A

Quick votes?

Thanks guys!

I know people who have used the GS-D3's have been very satisfied, and I believe tire rack shows them with pretty good reviews..

I had a set of 050A's on my car once, and they were decent tires but wore out really fast...

Remember of course that treadwear numbers cannot be compared from BRAND to BRAND, only within a brand.. :)

If you can afford it, go with michelin pilot sport PS2, thats what I have on the Q right now and i love em! They're holding up great, super sticky, and super quiet.

I have these exact tires on the back of my SC400, and really like them. As Wes mentioned they wear fast, but I don't expect too many miles from any "performance" tire on a >2 ton car.

10,000 miles in four years????? Good god, drive that thing !!!!!!!! Almost seems like a waste to spend alot of $$$$ on tires with soo little use !!!!! FYI I drive the Q 25K+ per year !!!!!

I know, it is actually a little more but 12k, I put 35k on my X-Terra over the last 5 years plus another couple thousand on my 300ZX. I haven't had to commute for 7 years and I have purposely used the Q sparingly so the odo doesn't turn too fast.

I will have to order a new set, 50% tread life left on other tires and the rear right had a completely split sidewall :( I will see about a price on the Michelin's and if not I think I'm going to try the Goodyears if for nothing else a change of pace.

Good call guys, they have the Michelin's Pilot Sports on close-out right now in XL load rating:

Size: 245/40ZR19
Sidewall Style: Blackwall
Serv. Desc: (98Y)
Load Index 98 = 1653lbs (750kg) per tire
Speed Rating "(Y)" = 186+mph (300kph)
Load Range: XL
UTQG: Treadwear: 220
Traction: AA
Temperature: A
220 AA APrice: $316.00 (each)
$283.00 (each) Special
Estimated Availability: In Stock

Alittle less wear rating than the Goodyears but a little less $$$ and they were in the Reno wherehouse which was 1/2 the shipping and I will have them tomorrow. They had the Hankook Ventus for $156 per tire, but you know you get what you pay for....I just put Michelin's on my X-Terra when I got a screw in my sidewall on my Goodyear Fortera's and they are really solid. Amazingly these are the first Michelin's I have used since the late 70's on my old Celica.

Cannot wait, getting them installed tomorrow along witha full aligment and fresh oil for Baby :). Now today I interiewed for a job where might have to commute so I might actually wear these tires out this time instead of just exploding a sidewall. The Bridgestone 050A sidewall blew out when I hit an expansion joint coming out of my Half Moon Bay which I is why I did 40 series instead of 35s.

I will report back on the new shoes.

Yeah I wonder what the differences are?? They all look identical except the XL load rated ones? I wonder if one model is a runflat or something?

My bad, you're right, there's 1 with the XL 98 Load Rating, the other 3 are 94's. So, he must be getting the XL one.

My experience has been that most RFT's don't have Load Ratings, but I'm not sure if there's an industry standard.

On a side note, I hate how much quality 19" tires cost in comparison to similar width/quality 18's or even 20's.

They were the YR rated 98 XL load, there were others in W rating and 94 load. I didn't understand why these were on closeout and the others weren't, but I thought they were a steal at $253 per tire. My wife laughed when I told her that as her Nissan Sentra's tires were about that much delivered in her huge 185/65 14 size :)

Okay, so got them mounted up. Very nice ride, you can for sure tell that they have the higher profile then the Bridgestone's I was running (up from 35 to 40) which is nice, but man the feel very beefy. Not sure if that is the PS2 overall or if getting the XL makes taht big of a difference, but very noticeable. So far I would say love them, but will be doing extensive road testing :) over the next few months. They feel a little lighter to the touch of the wheel but my old tires were 50% worn out and 5 years old so that has to factor in.

Nothing like a new set of tires :) :) :)

Glad you liked them, the PS2s are about as good as money can get.

Yup, I did 50 miles today and loving them. I am still a big Bridgestone fan but this is a great tire for the Q. I have S03 Pole Positions on my Z car and looking at the new Extreme High Performance RE11's are looking very good, but I will not look back on these rocking tires at this price!!!!! Thanks for the help again.
