Ok I found a 94 altima 5spd with 137k on the mtor. It has the typical empty spray can sound under the timing cover. I know I just need to remove the 2 upper timing guides and clean the tenioner to get rid of this noise. My question is the car is located 1hr away from where I live. Will I be able to drive it home without having to worry about destroying the motor?

is your engine shaking?

it could be your distributor, unscrew both screws , dont pull dis. out, turn on car, move distributor left or right, you will see difference of car shaking, timing...

my distributor is moved all the way right, runs perfect.. then shut off car and screw em back on ... perfect

your problem could be much bigger than a dirty or clogged tensioner. look into replacing the chains, tensioner and guides or risk bent valves.
