doing my HG, i have the upper timing cover off and am doing the belt. If i align the crank pulley to 2nd from the left mark, and the cams appropriately, and there are 39 cogs between cam marks, its correct ya?

i can not count the teeth between exhaust mark and crank, so i hope this is sufficient.

Thanks

Just make sure all the marks are lined up. If it runs like crap, re-do it.

I suggest to turn the crank by hand before you start it with the ignition. This is the safest way to be sure you are not in interference. Use a large socket on the crank bolt and turn it a few times.

yep dont bother counting cogs on belt, just put it at TDC, and align marks on cam gears, and timing cover mount plate.

and yea I always like to turn the motor over by hand plugs out after a rebuild or timing belt job rather than fire it up right away.

when building oil pressure for the first time after a rebuild or a swap, take your sparkplugs out btw....maybe relevent or may not be, good practice regardless.

Yeah, always turn it over a few times by hand to make sure everything is okay, then pull the coil main plug or the fuel pump fuse and turn it over a few times and make sure the timing hasn't changed. Sometimes (most of the time) there is slack in there that comes out after a few quick turns and the gears become a tooth off.
