OK...first of all, I have searched and searched and get partial answers. Surely someone here can give me a quick answer. I replaced the headgasket, and ended up needing to pull off the front cover. I replaced everything, but think my timing is off. Anyway, my questions are: 1) Of the 6 notches on the crank pulley, is TDC (0 degrees) represented by the 2nd notch from left to right? 2) My cam pulley has a small circle, like a reference point. It is now at 9 o'clock, which I think is wrong. Where should it be (more or less) After replacing a timing tensioner and headgasket, the car just turns over. I thought I had the chain on correctly, but I now doubt it since I have compression, spark, and fuel. I didn't line up the reference links while the cover was off, and I hope that someone can just tell me where that dot on the cam pulley is supposed to be.

Anyone?? I went to the salvage yard today just to set TDC on any other KA24E engines (240SX, Stanza) to see where the mark ended up, but all 3 engines were missing the cylinder heads. Just the cam (SOHC) pulley needs to be placed in the correct spot. There is a marker dot that is used to align the chain, and I need to know if that dot is supposed to be at 3 o'clock or 12 o'clock.

Hey. It can be tricky to get everything where it's supposed to be. This is what I did with my DE.

TDC is the colored mark (I think yellow). Your #1 cylinder will be all the way up, you can tell its up if you use a flashlight or stick somthing clean and straight down the spark plug hole. Just roll the car in 5th. Helps to have a friend to look for you.

Make sure the distributor is put back right. There are marks on the distributor you need to line up. Put it back without the valve cover installed so you can use a flashlight to make sure they are lined up after you poke it in. The rotor should be lined up with the #1 spark wire. It's easy to be off 1 tooth Mine was actually a little below the #1wire when I finally got it right.

Hopefully you marked so your timing isn't very far off. Should start up first try when you get the dist in right if the timing chains and everything else is good on the engine.

Don't forget to use that torque wrench. Stripping sucks.
