Searched and read through 2 pages of thermostat threads to no avail. Trying to install a new thermostat figuring my old one is bad. open the housing up and there isnt one there. The question is...which way does it go in?

is it rad. [] hose = housing 0 with the stem of the thermo going in <= towards the engine

or does the stem part point out towards teh radiator?

car is imobilised untill i get it worked out =\

The spring goes on the inside, so the fluid pushes against the flat surface/diaphram, as the water is coming out of the radiator and returning back to the thermostat housing front cover and water pump.

Just make sure you properly fill and vent when re-installing and please exercise caution when opening the vent valve/nut Since the vent valve is on the return side back to the radiator, you may not actually get the piping completely filled until the car warms and the thermostat opens. So, I always fill it, let it run with the vent cracked, and then add water/coolant to the reservoir as needed until completely filled, and then close the vent.

all was going well untill i started to re fill. I now know the source of my overheating problems. When the shop replaced the head gasket, they had to take the intake mani off. when he put it back on he didnt replace one of the cooling hoses that goes through the firewall to the heater.

If I had not parked on my steep driveway to help eliminate the bubbles I would never know untill I over heated again.

off to the parts store to buy a clamp that I can get access to with out having to take the mani off myself.

sometimes life is a b*tch!
