i have my exhaust off minus the manifold, and i was gonna record how loud it was. I know it can screw up your valves etc. if you run a motor with an open head, but will it hurt anything if you run it open manifold?

i don't see the point in recording the dB level with the exhaust removed. but if you must do it, put the downpipe on as well so the exhaust gasses won't stay in the engine compartment

What kind of recorder are you going to use. I've been looking for a good digital recorder but can't find one that records exhaust very well.

It's only extended driving with the open manifold... it allows oxygen to mix too early with the exhaust gas causing extremely high EGT's which burns up your exhaust valves. Aircooled Porsche's are known to do this alot when the manifolds have a leak.

so running it for a short time should cause no harm? or i can just put on my downpipe and not have to worry about anything? im paranoid about breaking stuff :)
