quick steering rack question

So heres the deal, bought an 89 s13 shell few years ago, put in an sr and didnt have ps lines so i just looped the stock hard lines. My issue is, i recently got dohc lines and installed them, now the 17mm hardline is striping on rack itself. From what ive read thread and pitch is 16x1.5, So tomorrow im gonna pick up a 16x1.5 tap and see if i can clean up the threads on the rack.

Any input would be great, as well as if anyone else has experienced this or even what you would do.

ps racks arnt hard to find though go to your local junk yard if you cant tap it correclty

i got one with tie rod in and outs (threw it over the fence )
