So I was planning on seafoaming my 200k KA. Then my dad planted a seed of doubt. He said it wouldn't be a good idea, cause some of that built up oil might actually be helping my compression. I usually don't listen to my dads car advice, but I can see where he's coming from.

So anyone know if there's any truth in my dad's claim?

I wouldn't do it either. But the only real seals that I would think to worry about are the head and VC gaskets... Maybe the valve seals...

Yea the head gasket is my main worry since we already replaced the VC gasket not to long ago.

Also gotta think about the pan gasket, too. I have heard it eats that up, if you have a cork gasket on it...

Well, you could do it, and then just run high-mileage oil for a while to help...

...but I still wouldn't do it. :gapteeth:

According to Greg in the Seafoam thread:

Just for s***s and giggles, I Seafoamed our '63 NL320 last week. HILARIOUS to watch all the smoke whooshing out of the 1.2" exhaust pipe...LOL

Believe it or not, she ran beautifully afterwards.
But I still wouldn't do it. I'm just too afraid and would have to DD my car unlike Greg and that Datsun.

I seafoamed my car when I first got it.
Turbocharging and thousands of miles later, pistons and stuff are fine.

I'm gonna try it on my reasonable-mileage CA20 in a few days, I'll let you guys know how it works for me...

I heard that this stuff can make your oxygen sensors go out after a few miles, don't know if that was talked about before...

But 200K miles would make me think about it hard, lol.

I've seafoamed plenty of motor's and never had any problems.I seafoamed my old 244k 302 in my f-150 and it ran great afterwards, datte is right it can cause some oil leaks but if it's just carbon and oil sludge holding your motor together it's a ticking time bomb anyways and better to find out now than to find out a year down the road on a long trip.

It's debatable. "Built-up oil" (if he means "sludge") wouldn't do anything for your compression - think about it. However, he may be thinking it may cause the seals to fail. Still doubtful, but that's his call.

Honestly, I wouldn't use it in the oil for your purposes. However, I *WOULD* use it in the combustion chambers to remove the carbon deposits. There's absolutely no reason not to.

On the old Datsun, I was able to advance my timing afterwards, and my HP went up as well as my fuel economy.

I also Seafoamed our '05 Frontier. I didn't tell Becky, but the next time she drove it, she came home and said, "Damn - the truck runs awesome. What did you do?" :dblthumb:

Umm...so half a can in the gas tank and the other half through the vacuum would be the middle ground here I suppose.

Sounds reasonable enough, thanks guies.

I lolled. Dave is in here replying telling you not to. He only quotes Greg and now you're going to do it.

Thank you for not listening to Dave!

Wouldn't that be what a car enthusiast would want from a speedbump?
