It's debatable. "Built-up oil" (if he means "sludge") wouldn't do anything for your compression - think about it. However, he may be thinking it may cause the seals to fail. Still doubtful, but that's his call.
Honestly, I wouldn't use it in the oil for your purposes. However, I *WOULD* use it in the combustion chambers to remove the carbon deposits. There's absolutely no reason not to.
On the old Datsun, I was able to advance my timing afterwards, and my HP went up as well as my fuel economy.
I also Seafoamed our '05 Frontier. I didn't tell Becky, but the next time she drove it, she came home and said, "Damn - the truck runs awesome. What did you do?"
