quick radio question

hi im new tothe site and infinitis and just picked up a 96 i30 the other day. radio seemed fine but now it doesnt seem to display anything when i start the car. i can do anything with it but i turn it off and back on and nothing dissplays. after about 20 mins or so it seems to fade in and display just fine. also i listen to my ipod through the casette and it ejects it after about a min and doesnt seem to want to stay in until i eject it, is that normal?

it has the bose audio system in it as well i forgot to say.

That's definitely a internal radio issue. If you want to try to get it fixed, there is a thread stickied at the top of this forum with a guy that repairs radios. If you want to replace it, it's not terribly hard and just requires an adapter to make the new radio work with the Bose.

thank you for the reply, yes i would love to replace it with an aftermarket one in the future. also my antenna isnt retracting all the way nor extending all the way. would a new one fix that problem?

New radio wouldn't fix that, but you can however get a new mast and replace that instead of the whole antenna assembly.

what is a mast and how much would that run me? id replace it myself if its simple enough. owned dodge all my life so this is a bit new to me lol. im sure i could tackle it. thanks for the fast replys!

99% of the time there is a problem, the plastic teeth have stripped out. Replacing the mast is the cheapest and easiest way to fix it. The quality of the replacement antenna assemblies is a little bit questionable anyway unless you go with oem.
