are the sohc and the dohc 5 speed trannys the same as in culd i take a 5speed sohc trans and bolt it up to a dohc motor

yep. slight difference in s14 and s13, like rear dust cover and maybe 3/4" over length difference in the rear cover. but That difference might have more to do with abs being more common in the s14.

sohc may have 1 less sensor that dohc. but that's like 5th gear something sensor that doesn't matter anyway.

but yes I have put a SOHC trans on an DOHC. Its possible that I have done the other way to, but I am about to this week again.
