Alright i got a K&N cone filter you all know what i am talking about. no the intal went well everything went where it should but the hose from the intake to some black box is too short and doesn't allow the cone to sit where it should now it isn't a big problem where it is but i plan on making a custom ram air and the way it is sitting makes that virually impossible. so i was jsut wondering would it mess anything up if i were to jsut get a longer tube/hose?

If youre talking about the hose that connected to teh stock airbox to give fresh air to the exhaust to help the cat work, you can just put a little breather on it.

uhh no im talking about the hose that went from the stock airbox to a little black plastic box and eventually went into the stock collector to provide fresh air for the cat just like i said.

I turned my black air box into a CAI. I have since bought a injen intake with extention. Just buying a cone......your engine is breathing hot air in the summertime. Get some flexable plastic hose and hook it to the ends where your resonator box was(when you remove it) This is a poormans cai!!!!!!

Its not that bad. The AEM intake for 240sx is the same thing as replacing the stock air box with a cone filter. And carbeurated engines almost always take air in from the engine bay.

jj....ask around....you'll find out that i'm right. There is a big difference between running a hot pipe vs. a cai. Same goes for removing your y pipe vs. hooking up a hose to it to draw cold air.

whatever. go spend 300 dollars on an injen CAI then. and for the record nothing you have said even has anything to do with his question.

Just for the record, if you get on AEMs website they only offer a short ram intake for the 240 b/c it produced better numbers vs. a true CAI. And for the orginal question that is probably your AIV you speak of and like JJ has already said just put a breather on it. This has been covered before, actually I replied to a post about a week ago about it.

for every 10 deg change in inlet temp you get about 1% more power(which is not speed dependent)this is why all new cars draw air from outside the engine bay.ram air is good too,but requires 90mph to get 1% increase-how long do you drive over 90?

this might not seem like much but it can easily be 200deg under hood-maybe 90 outside(fla)=16.5hp for a 150hp 240sx and the torq.increases across the board.

thats not all hot air promotes detonation-or in our case the computer to reduce the timing which is counter-productive

research from-david vizard's many books
