I'm in the middle of doing a Kouki S14 SR swap into my 95 Zenki. I gave all my wiring harnesses to a local SR wiring specialist, and he contacted me back after I dropped the stuff off, and told me that the SR harness isn't full.

The KA harness is complete (pulled it out of my car), but the SR's lower transmission harness is cut half way (it only has the wires that connect to the sensor holes on the transmission, the starter/alternator/battery cables were all cut). I noticed these things, but thought it was part of the "pulling process" in Japan.

So Anyways, I talked to the wiring guy, and he told me that since it's cut, he will have to join the KA lower wiring harness with the SR, and he mentioned that it's a "Big Job". He pretty much told me that I will be paying $300+ more than what we agreed to.

So my question goes as follows, is it true that it's a "big job", and if so, is that a fair asking price? I've been looking around everywhere for an S14 SR lower transmission harness, and had no luck (everything is on back order for new sets, and used stuff is hard to find).

Help would be greatly appreciated on this situation, thanks in advance.

Tell him to suck your peter and preorder a WS harness. As much as I hate WS for the horrible customer service I received, the guy you took yours too is ripping you. At WS you can order the upper and lower premade harness for 429 with free shipping. Downside: its not going to be done til June, and they change the crap out of their due dates. I was told I'd have one by the end of December and I was told this in September

Hey, thanks for your reply, but he already started the wiring, and told me today that the main harness is pretty much done. Tell me. . . What would you have done? Take it to someone locally who's good at wiring SR's and pay them $250 for wiring it, or would you pay some place across the border double of what your local guy is asking, and need to wait until June?

I rest my case :chuckle: But as you can tell, it's too late to turn back now and go with WS full harness. So I have 3 choices; 1. Either pay him more and get him to wire up the KA lower harness to the SR one. 2. Keep looking for an S14 lower wiring harness. 3. Wait until June, and just order the lower wiring harness and give it to him to finish it up.

But damn, I need my car to run soon, ARGH! If someone can find a link to a FS posting in Canada/West coast states for an S14 lower wiring harness, you will seriously be my savior!

Cut the needed plugs off sr harness and splice them to the ka harness, the starter, alternator, and battery wiring should be the same between the 2 harnesses. I think that the sr wiring specialist you're talking to is trying to butt rape you with a 60 grit sandpaper condom.

Edit: Paying more than $100 to have a s14 sr harness converted for use in a us s14 is retarded, the only thing that needs to be done to the harness other than the usual maf and o2 sensor extension is to change the dash plug, and swap the wiper motor plug depending on the year of the engine and of the car.

You sure? here's a pic of my very engine on the side, see how the harness eventually goes under the crate of wood (from the transmission), that's where it's cut, so you can see what's left (starter piece cut, etc).

I can get you the lower harness brand new if you are interested. It is not very expensive and is available now.

The Wiring Specialties harnesses are brand new top notch high quality harnesses made for the USDM Chassis and are well worth the wait and money. Wiring problems are definitely NOT something you want to ever have to deal with.

Let me know.
