I got the clutch and transmission off no problem. Now I just need to get the flywheel bolts off, so I can put the motor on an engine stand. Mind you this motor is out of the car. What do I do to get them off. The engine just turns when I try to take them off. I have no air tools available btw.

usually there are more holes in the flywheel where you can "wedge" something in there and keep it from turning. It is not the most professional way, but it will work. Especially if you dont have air tools

I don't see any place to wedge anything in there.

Can you give it a slight turn say clockwise, then hit the wrench with a hammer to break it loose? Kind of like making an impact wrench out of a regular socket. Just an idea.

thats what i do alot of times. couldnt hurt to heat it up with a torch too if the bolts are that stubborn

uhmmm well I'm trying to remember exactly how I did it and I cant remember, but I can definetly give you some ideas.

Try holding the crank pulley bolt. That will either stop the engine from spinning, or your crank pulley bolt will come off, which is something that youre going to have to do down the road sometime anyways (which is also a pain because the engine spins).

Alllso it's not exactly the best method in the world, but you can take the valve cover off and grab one of the cams. I dont beleive there is that much torque on those flywheel bolts that you cant just hold the cam on that 1" slot so it doesnt move. You're not supposed to use the timing chains for tension but hey... if you're replacing parts and you cant think of anything else....

Just some ideas!

Fiznat, I already had the vc and front cover off, so I stuck a screw driver between the chain and a tensioner and I got them off. I broke a reducer, but after that It was good to go. Got it on the engine stand. Just awaiting parts for hte build-up

When I did it, I linked a bunch of wrenches together on the bolts to try to stop the flywheel from turning when trying to get the other bolts off. They are on there REALLY tight, so you have to have a lot of torque.

I couldn't hold one of the cams. It would still turn on me. Everything is going to be replaced anyhow. I didnt see any damage from the screw driver, but all those parts will be new before its over with
