I want to make EXTRA-sure I get this right.

I recently bought a 95 G20t 5-sp with a bad motor.

Can I install a 00-02 SR20 into this car without too much drama OR am I going to have to stick with a 95-99 engine?

I intend to swap the intake, dist, sensors, etc over when i do the swap, but I have gotten some conflicting info and I don't want to buy the wrong engine.

Thanks all!

You are opening up a whole new can of worms trying to put in a roller rocker sr20. If at all possible stay away from the B15 SE sr20. The motors doesn't rev as high safely, the ring lands are completely different, therefore the motor is not as "bullet proof". The intake manifolds are different, the injectors are top feed vs side feed. Plus If I remember correctly, you would have to do some wiring harness re-wiring to accomodate your ECU. Stay with 91-99 or a High port (91-92).

Well, in the interest of finding a low mileage one, does it make sense to look for a late 90's?

The closer to 99 I can get, the better, assuming all the early 90's engines are going to be high-mileage...

A JDM high port is going to have roughly 40k on it. Switch over a USDM highport intake manifold, which I have in the garage, hook up your EGR crap and drive off w/6mo warranty on the motor and 30 day warranty on the head gasket. You are getting a better deal that way, than trying to find a decent mileage US motor. Thats just my opinion because I have seen it done and done it too many times. The motors are extremely clean, inside and out. Taken the valve cover of a couple of them before we put them in and it looked brand new. Hell I just changed out my valve cover gasket on my DET after about 20k miles plus the mileage that was already on it and looked brand spanking new once the valve cover was off. The DET's, U12 like I have are well over 10 years old, even when I bought it, 3 yrs ago. The NA JDM sr's, highport are no different.

OK, so get a 91-92, then call you and discuss purchasing intake manifold?

Sounds good.

Will probably order engine this week if Soko has one available.

They will have plenty. There are two Soko's, one in your neighbor state CA and one in IL. Lasted one ordered from IL about 6mos ago was like $425 shipped to KY.

What all is involved in testing emissions in AZ Greg? If they don't test for NOX, I don't think you will need EGR.

One other thing, you will have to take reuse your exhaust manifold as well, although the nice 4-2-1 jdm exhaust looks like it would perform well.

Agreed, mine cost $485 shipped in April. Engine arrived the day after placing the order.

Mike, do you know of somewhere I could do my engine swap (approximately 2-3 weeks)? I have the equipment lined up, but seem to be having some problems. Give me a call or send me an e-mail.

Ouch, no love for the B15 SR, haha...

Yeah, it's weird, but it's still one of the better 4cyls out there no doubt, they just added stuff. Simplicity seemed to escape Nissan for the later years of the SR... sadly the simplicity is what made the SR so great early on...

OK, I will order a 91-92 engine this week.

I will be adding a header, so no worries on the manifold...

They test for everything here.... AZ is 2nd-toughest state (after CA) for emissions.

Is this the correct engine? Not sure I'd deal with anyone but Soko or LKQ, but....

Those motors are what you are looking for. I wouldn't buy anything from ebay either.

Steer clear of Ebay if you can, Greg.

They claim warrantees and even testing though, I'd call them if you could, if you can't get one from a sponsor. If you can't call them, I wouldn't touch it.

We order all of our motors from SOKO. You can't go wrong with them. They always have them in stock and are always the cleanest around.

Preferably find a UK 10:1 Primera red top. It'll give you a little extra ooomph if you aren't planning on turboing it and they cost the same typically.

That's what I wound up with - It's been a great little motor!
