I've heard that there's not much reason to upgrade the head of the rb20, as it is pretty darn strong.I'm doing some upgrades on the bottom end though. The motor that I bought doesn't have pistons, so I'm going aftermarket for those. Should I also replace the OE connecting rods? I have no idea how strong they are, but I do know that I've been quoted a couple outrageous prices for aftermarket ($375 a piece from Carrillo, f*** you guys) connecting rods.-fuse.

I was about to walk down the rebuild short block road a few years ago. I couldn't find rods . Do a google search for spooling rb20det rod. There $675 AUD!!!!! for all 6 forged!.

I think you are going to be really hard pressed to make enough HP on a stock displacment RB20 to have to worry about rods. Save your money.

Werd. And it is Spool rods in case you're looking. I have heard good things about them.

I've heard that company is owned by eagle.

But take a good look at an rb20 rod. they're about as burl as 26 rods. Rb20 rods are ridiculously strong. I think the weak points in rb20 bottom ends are the the cast pistons. Even those can and have taken 450 whp+ many times with the right tune. Tune is key.

if you could put a 25 or 26 head on it, I would.

the head on a RB20 has smaller ports and valves.

Don't know bout the rods or pistons, but as far as main and rod BEARINGS I bought mine from ACL, spent like around 200.00 bones. I def. recommendarp head studs and some sort of metal head gasket too ( i bought a Tomei).

i used nsk standard size bearings on my rebuild, machine shop set the bottom end up and said everything fell well within spec.also standard hg is just fine...held 18psi on my 30r no problem.now with arp studs and a stock hg it sill holds 22psi without a problem.
