topic pretty much says it all. is there a dip stick to check the transmission fluid? all I see is by the brake master cylinder a cylindrical thing with fluid in it which remotley resembles transmission fluid. I have no owner's manual and I really need to get the fluids done today so can anybody tell me how to check the transmission fluid and where its at? thanks.

AT's have one at the back near the firewall. MT's don't have one.

The dipstick fo the auto trans will have a yellow handle and should be on the passenger side right up tight against the firewall.Sounds almost like you have a manual trans though, as it sounds like the other resevoir you see in front of the brake master cylinder might be the clutch resevoir. If this is the case there is a way to check the lube levels in the trans, but requires going under the car and using a finger in the 'check hole' of the trans... the check hole will have a plug screwed into it... you should see what I mean when you get under there. Hope this helps!

that smaller cylindrical thing is your hydraulic clutch fluid (brake fluid DOT 3/4)

soo, there's no dipstick on the manual trans; you'll haveta jack up the whole car evenly (to make it "level") to accurately check the level.

umm, 17mm open end wrench to the square plug on the driver side of the transmission. open it up & if the GL4 gear oil should be level/ some will come out...

heck, if i'm under there, i might as well change the gear oil since i'm already under the thing... (about 2.2quarts is needed) PS: most don't carry GL4 gear oil @ my local pepboys & i end up getting penzoil synchromesh 1 time in a pinch... from autoz0ne

might as well check the slave cyl on the pass side for any brake fluid leaks (peel back the dust boot)
