Quick question about timing. Numerically higher or lower BTDC which is advanced more. I know base is 20. So is 18 2 degrees retarded or 2 degrees advanced? Reason I'm asking is I have so timing problems on my 240 and I've been told 2 different things by 2 different people who work on cars. One says (while looking at the distributor cap) that turning it clockwise is advancing the timing and counterclockwise is retarding it. The other one says the opposite. I have a timing light, only problem is, if I'm not for sure which way to go with the distributor, then it doesn't help much. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

higher number is advanced. lower the timing number is retarding (or turning the dist counter-clockwise).
