Quick Question about KA Part, some kind of sleeve? (With pics)

Information on the naturally-aspirated KA24E and KA24DE engines.

Hi Guys,

This is the first time I've taken a head off an engine. Thanks to the FSM it came off like a charm, but I notices these 2 little sleeves poking out of the deck on the block.

This is the one on the front.

This is the one between cylinder 3 & 4 on the exhaust side.

I wasn't sure if these could be re-used, or what they actually are. Any info would be appreciated.

they are just dowels to line up the head properly. just leave them alone . they can be reused

Thanks ya'll.

Thing is they are already popped out (as in fully out of the hole).

I was planning to have the deck resurfaced, so I figure I'll go ahead and set these aside with all the other small parts that I'm trying not to lose.

Again, appreciate the info.

you can pop them in and out with a pair of pliers..just compress it and pop it back in.
