I recently had my 96 i30 repaired with maf sensor, knock sensor and oxygen sensor. i been filling up with premium since then, so i was wondering if it is safe to use a lower grade gas?, because premium is putting a dent in my wallet.

lower octane is fine. the knock sensor will detect pre-ignition and the computer will retard the ignition timing. car run slower but wallet feel heavier.

Yep, as long as your knock sensors are in working order, the car will adjust for lower grade gas.

okay that's good to hear, and thanks for all your help, but will it cause any damage or wear on the knock sensor if i started to fill it with a lower octane fuel?

If you cant afford an extra 20$ a month for gas then you shouldn't be driving. Yes the knock sensors work but they're not meant to be used as a crutch. At the very least you need to be using midgrade
