I use the standard ones - however depending on your driving habits the hot type may be more appropriate.

Do a search for spark plug hot. There are some good discussions on the merits of these for drivers who don't get the RPMs up daily.

We worst case is cold fouling therefore you want a plug hot enough to burn off idle/cruise crud..........Unlikely other than WOT racing [on a track] that you would ever need a cold plug.

Wes, if you decide to get the 5's (which I recommend), check on eBay for the part numbers. I got 8 for $47.00, including shipping. You might get the same deal, if you emain the gy, and tell hin you are from the NICO website. I invited him to join. His email address is:

He had an auction active, you can see it here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISA...41400

Also, I assume you redline it often?? Have you had any problems with knocking or pinging???

i'm thinkin about buying those plugs from him also. but how do i tell when i need new ones? is it just a general mileage or are there warning signs?

are there any born-on dates on the plugs in my car so ican tell how old they are?(previous owner apparently kept no service record)

According to the manual, it says they need to be changed every 60k... If you can get a hold of the previous owner, ask him if he did any sort of "tune up" outside of oil changes..... I asked mine, and I dont anything was done besides oil and maybe transmission and coolant (and a fuel filter because it was clogged and caused stalling when hot, which later caused a fuel pump failure) from 47k to 117k , so i have to assume it is time to get new ones..... And if they were done, and dont look bad, save em and change them later....

The plugs are platinum tipped, so they wont foul (or shouldnt) foul bad enough so that they wont spark at all..... When the engine is cold, and it take more than a few cranks to start, thats about time, and that is where I am.....

Wes, I got them in the mail, extremely fast. Definitely OEM, because the boxes have NISSAN written all over them. I have not changed my plugs, yet. I have 48,000 miles on the ones in the car, and want to go the full 60,000.

Never gone to redline. I think 6000 RPM is the most, and that was a 1-2 shift, just to smoke a little Acura Integra. I generally drive very mild. I need to go ticketless for another 6 months, to clear my 3 year record, to get a better insurance rate.

I usually try to stay in the 2500 to 3000 range, to save fuel. Most of my WOT runs, are 80 MPH+, in light traffic.

Rob, As far as changing the plugs, do it as soon as possible, since you have not records of when the old ones were changed. I did the same, when I bought the car. The plugs I pulled out, looked prety good, but I had no idea of the mileage.

By the way, I have never heard a "ping" out of my car. I only use premium gas, and run octane boost/FI cleaner occassionally.

You are in for some fun, changing the plugs.:pface
