I'm re-doing my oil return setup over winter break, it really needs some attention. I'm doing it in all -10AN Earl's fittings so I don't have to worry about it ever again.

Here's what my setup is going to consist of:

Oil drain flange

-10AN 60° swivel seal

-10AN Auto-Flex hose

-10AN 90° swivel seal

-10AN weldable steel bung for the oil pan

Here's my question: is that 60° bend right off the drain flange too much? I have a 45° in my shopping cart as well, but I'm really concerned about fitment issues because I'm running a bottom mount setup. Here's a picture of my current oil return line setup to show how low the drain is with the t25.

If I use a 45° right off the drain flange I'm not sure if I will be able to clear my engine mount. I'm also not sure how much this auto-flex hose bends before it kinks, so I need to think about that. If I weld the oil pan bung close enough to the front of the engine I don't have to worry about the hose having to bend again to connect to my 90° fitting, but if I put it too close to the front of the pan then my drain line wouldn't be very "downhill," if you get what I'm saying.

Is there enough headroom in the pan to weld the bung on the other side of the motor mount? That would be great, I could literally go straight down from the turbo to the pan.

It seems like every day I'm making a new thread covering topics that have already been made, but oh well, I guess that's what forums are for. Thanks for the replies.

-Chris

If the 45 is swivel, I'd say you are fine. Especially if you are going with a different pan/welding further forward.

can you not ditch the 90 on the pan and use a 45, then a 45 off the drain, and go around the mount?

another idea is to clock the snail so the drain is slightly pointed towards the block. IIRC its fine and a recommendation to have a few degrees of angle from 90* to aid in drainage, kinda how you dont just flip an oil bottle upside down....

i was gonna say the same thing, please ditch the 90 degree. the way i have mine is its going over and around the motor mount, but i do have the hockey puck style. it does not have any room to be kink(y), smooth radius turn and straight into the pan at a slight downward angle. yeah, i see your picture, u cant do it the way i have coz of the motor mount. you coud even weld the bung to the pan at a downward angle to avoid using a angled entry.

I can't, but the exhaust shop I'm taking it to can. They've done all my intercooler piping as well.

Then I'd have them weld a return tube just aft of the motor mount

I'm welding a "box extension" thingy on mine so the fitting I use will go straight into the top of it. Like a really small pan kickout, cept at the top.

the way i did mine was just get a 1/2 straight return bung and instead of welding it flat on the side of the pan, i cut it on an angle and welded it so its more like 45 degree on the pan. hopefully i explained it right cheap inexpensive way to do it.

The straighter the path of flow is the better it will be...duh I know, but I figured I'd mention it.

When I weld mine up, I'll snap lots of pics and explain why etc.
