Quick gear lube question

Does GL-4 supersede GL - 5? And is it backward compatible, kinda like how dex IV can be used for dex II and earlier applications. royal purple is the only company that seems to specify that their gear lube is suitable for both GL - 4 and GL-5 applications.

Yeah GL-4 and GL-5 have different chemical compositions IIRC... some aren't really compatible in the other's transmissions, possibly corroding some of the internal components (again... IIRC).

as far as nissan goes... gl4 = transmission and gl5 = diff
