quick! FSM question on speedometer

I can't seem to find the troubleshooting section for the speedometer.

Can ayone help? i need to do this today so i can find the problem with my speedometer.

Ive looked up and down the electronic section and ive only found the wire diagram (which i can hardly make out anyway = \)

which wires should i check to see if the speed sensor is actually working ?

EDIT: also, anyone know the bulb number for the clock light and the low gas light, by any chance ?

well just like a week ago, my speedometer went out. Just unexpectedly in the morning. The wierdest thing is as i was retrurning from school, i was going around 45 MPH and the needle jump to the other side (near 80 mph) and started going from right to left as i increased speed. When i droped below 45 mph the speedometer just falls to the right and it stays until once agian i hit 45 mph.

But to test out everything, i need to know which connections to test on the gauge cluster to find out if the sensor (and the little gear) is working good.

anyone know ?

do you have cruise? If cruise still works then the sensor is ok. PRobably just the speedo head. Mine hasn't worked for a while. Just use the tach

no cruise. Just a standard 91 240sx =).

Here is a diagram of the gauge cluster. there is another but its more complicated. if anyone needs it i can post it.

Which two wires is it ?

Looks like it could be pins 13,7,6,or 12. It is probably the speedo itself though. Does the odometer still work?

Then it is either the speedo itself or a bad connection in the instrument cluster. The last time I checked a speedo was like $116.

wow $116 ! u can get an aftermarket one for just a few bucks more.

well, i wanna be sure which part it is, i dont want to do trial and error and spend more $$$ then i have to.

well im checking the wires in my gauge cluster and i seem to not have the 13 wire (in the diagram above). odd.

I tried all the other wires and i get no AC current at all but the speedometer still jumps when i get past 45 mph. so there must be SOME current there...

maybe im checking the wrong connections ? does anyone know the exact connections ?
