Its an extra unit that's welded into the exhaust that alters the way the exhaust gases pass through, so it cuts down on noise. They are some that have bigger chambers than others. Probably would've been easier to find the answer through google too.

Resonators are also called glass packs. Back in the day Resonators are the only thing they would run, so my dad tells me. A resonator is a mid-pipe muffler, but normally not very restrictive. "Now-a-days" we use 2, and sometimes 3 mufflers. 1 or 2 resonators, and the final muffler that you use.

Also, when you get a cat back exahust system, look for that resonator if you do not like being too loud. Its a great alternative to using a silencer for example... It's not restrictive and you wont get the attention of police officers (something you have to worry about if you live in Cali)

You have them added or exchanged. I took out a 17" resonator on my SE-R and had a 22" long put in it's place. That thing went from the cat to 3 inches in front of the first bend. It was quieter tho.

(Exhaust was 2.5 inches on a NA 2.0 motor so I wanted to add some restriction)
