Well, what i am going to do is weld a small pipe on my downpipe, then connect heater hose to it, then connect the egr to the heater hose. Do you think the heater hose will be able to withstand the heat or will it be to dry and cause the hose to fall apart? How much time do you think it would take to fall apart? Hopefully this is a quick easy solution. It almost sounds to easy so I doubt that it would work just needed some opinions before I do it.

Yes you could do that. But it's goign to be very hot. My power steering line 8" away from turbo on intake side started to melt. Are oyu the same guy that is wanting the egr stufff from me. If so I'll go take the pics right now sorry been busy.Only thing is the egr pipe where on one side it has a nut that slides over the egr to tighten down.pic up in a sec.

If you put the nipple down clos to your steering rack. maybe 3 inches after your downpipe bends. Then you should be good. Therefore it's jsut exhaust temp not turbo temps. What mani do you have?

Because even with our stock egr. You'll need a bung welded. And chances are it is not going to line up correctly. Heater hose is best idea. Only need to drill a hole weld a bung. and then cut hose to length and use 2 hose clamps.Trying to use stock egr pipe will be too much of hassle. Besides too much rust.

as well as making the pipe on the down pipe at least 3" away from the bend you also may want to make it longer that way the hose is further away and less prone to heat damage

I think he wants to keep his EGR for some reason.

I *really* dont think this will work. Exhaust temps right out of the turbo there are VERY, VERY hot (easially over 1000 degrees). I seriously doubt that regular heater hose can handle anything close to that. If you really must keep your EGR, you're going to have to make that pipe out of metal that can withstand the heat.

Agreed. Think about it. If hose would handle it, they would spend less money making exhaust hoses, not pipes. Even the OEM's couldn't cheap out on it.

Maybe you guys can give me some good reasons to just remove it. My reason for not removing it like I said in my other post is because I want to pass smog and not have to pay 200 bucks to pass. I could use that 200 bucks on car parts.

If this is on a S13 or OBD I S14, you can pass emissions without the EGR with just a little bit of work. Re-installing the EGR like this is really a PITA and not necessary unless you're dealing with OBDII, in which case you're probably screwed anyways.

Not to threadjack, but what about a OBD2 KA? Is it as simple as blocking off the EGR and adding a resistor?

you might have better luck using braided ss hose.

Even still. He can make this work. Just weld a nipple on low by the steering rack but leave clearance. You can then get an ssortment of metal piping even maybe get an exhausrt shop to get some 1" pipe and he can make it work.

I would at least try to put the heater hose or whatever high temp hose you can find on the egr side as opposed to the exhaust side, this way, at least it's a "little" cooler temp... plus would look less rigged since you can't see the egr side as easily.

To really make it right, you would bend your own piping, of course that will cost more also.

what do youu mean egr side?

I think i will just get a pipe bent and do it the right was. I will plug the egr up temporary. All that should happen is the check engine light comes on? When I get the pipe made and put on the downpipe the check engine light should go off automatically or not?

Thanks

by egr side i meant instead of having the heater hose connect the dump tube to the egr piping... have the dump tube connect to the egr piping then connect the other end where the actual egr is w/ the heater hose (i.e. intake manifold side).

egr doesn't affect the car's performance (i.e. the ecu will not go into safe mode because egr is not working, only the cel comes on).
