quick diagnose..need help

today my car was runnin smoothly..drove it to k-mart which is abut 3-4 mile away from my house, did some shoppin. got back into the car started fine, one click to be exact and as im driving home i decide to stomp it a little. i was crusing about 35 mph.when i stomped it, it just died..the rpm just went to zero.parked it on the side of the road and tried cranking the car but it wont turn over..any answers?

Has any work been done to the car lately?

Did you try and kick the car off when it wouldn't turn over?

Did the car make a "click" noise when you turned the key?

What I thought too.......

Theres lots of crap that has to come off to replace the timing chain that could come loose if not installed correctly. I would poke around and make sure all the connectors are connected and all the vacuum lines, hoses and electrical stuff is all in order.

I would also suggest trying to kick it off. Last year my car died while driving and it was because the alternator died, so that killed the battery, and car with dead battery doesn't go vroom.

Clearly he ment it wont start.

Anyways this happend to me. Turned out to be a fuse under the hood. Dont remember right now exactly which one but check em. It was a tall fuse in the box by the intake man. The top of the fuse is clear so you can look right at it and see if its blown. Good luck.

re-read it..i said it was only cranking and it wasnt turning over

Theres a lot more involved in the electrical then there is in the timing chain!

An engine can't crank if it doesn't turn over. When you turn the switch, does the engine make a noise....or not?

so...are you trying to say that the starter is attempting to turn and start the car, but its basically not turning and not turning the engine over?

correct..hence what i said in my first post cranking but not turning over..which leads us back to the beginning..

Its not the starter because it wouldnt kill the car while its driving.

Could be alternator, pull that sucker out and test it at your parts store.

Also check the gray alternator fuse in the fuse box by the battery. Its has 75a on it.

Test the battery.

Thats all i can really think of.

When you read the whole thread, this is hilarious.

I think you should DL a FSM and check out the diagnostics sections, they talk you through everything based on symptoms really well actually. Well, you have to be technically minded, but its well done. And they always start with the easiest first.

I think what you're trying to say is when you turn the ignition switch to start the car, the motor spins over but it fails to fire up. If this is so, check for spark and fuel.

it was worst than i thought..but problem fixed..the gear on the spindle that spins the oil pump and distributor broke loose..so it spun freely..i know trippy..i took out the distributor cap and turned the rotor, and noticed something was wrong when i was turning the rotor..so i pulled out the oil pump, replaced trhe spindle..now everythings all good..
