I'm current rebuilding a z24 in my 1983.5 720 4x4 and it came with the stock s*** when I bought it. It's off the motor now and I wanted to clean it since it's been sitting for a couple of years. I DO NOT want to take it apart but I'm pretty sure it should be cleaned. I don't want any crap flowing into my new engine plus the throttle linkage was locked up when I got (since been freed) it so I'm assuming that many other moving parts inside could very well be stuck too. I plan on swapping to a weber or he cheaper holley one day but I'll need to run this one first. Can I soak the whole thing in tact in some kind of solvent? If I put it on the motor and spray carb cleaner in it will that fix it without dumping too much crap in the motor, assuming it will work well enough to run? Also, is 2 years of sitting long enough to have to take to tank off and clean it? Is that a lot of work?
Thanks, hope this isn't to boring or redundant for the forum.
Chris

The best solution I've found to cleaning my carb so far, without taking it apart, is B12 Chemtool Carb Cleaner. It's fairly cheap and does a pretty good job, you should be able to find it at Wal-Mart or something. Also, mine sat up for about two years when I got it and we had to replace ALL of the vac lines, so do that if you haven't already (and don't skimp!). And the float on my carb would stick, so we just sanded it down a little and it's been working fine ever since.
