Ok so my 4th CA was on it's way out so I decided to pull everything apart and freshen her up again. But while I was at my buddies shop he said he had a present for me:) I like presents so he came back a second later with a ca head with tomei cam gears and from what I could tell not stock cams. There were no real marking's on the cams minus 2585n and 2585x stamped on the back of the cams. Also the tomei cam gears are really old because I've never seen them in just light gold anodized. So with what I've researched I'm guessing they are 256 duration 8.5 lift cams. But I would like to see if any of you cam confirm this.

Thanks

Pics are a must. A 256 could be an HKS cam too actually.

Looks like stock cams that have been stamped. They might be reground and those are the shop marks. HKS cams actually have HKS cast in the shafts and either 264 or 256 stamped in the rear and the tail is flat with no indentation.

Definitely not HKS cams (I have HKS cams) and I don't think they're Tomei's either.

If they are a re-ground cam, you need to check your lifter to cam clearance. A lot of the time they grind the cam with a smaller base circle to get the lift they want and the lifters require shims under them to get the proper clearance.

If the cam was welded up first, and then re-ground, you won't need the shims.

Unless he has gone solid lifters, the hydraulic lifters will compensate for the higher clearance.

You've had first hand experience with the stock lifters compensating for a 1mm increase in lifter to cam clearance? That seems like A LOT of clearance for the lifter to take up.

Sure that is Tomei Poncam, and only Tomei cam using this kind of number to identifing their cams (on CA or RB)
2585N = 256 duration 8.5mm lifting Intake
2585X = 256 duration 8.5mm lifting Exhause
