Im not to sure if this will even work just asking because I have the amp already. Its a 600watt 2 channel mtx amp. I was wondering because I just want to go with a little system 1 amp 1 sub. Can I have 1 channel going out to the 2 door speakers, and 2 rear sperakers Then have the other channel going to the 10" sub. Never tried doing this and just wondering if you can. Also will it even put out more then the HU will?

You can possibly do it in a mixed-mono mode. Browse the MTX site as I'm sure they have info on it.

I don't see why you couldn't if it's a two channel amp, but I would suggest that you reconsider whether you really want to. Say goodbye to stereo sound and the ability to fade between front and rear speakers. Chances are high that you would actually wind up with a worse sounding system using the amp than you would using the head unit, even if the amp does handle the power better.

Mixed-mono allows L-R seperation and a single channel for the sub. Should work fine as long as ohm ratings are setup appropriately.

The amp has a switch that says X-over. Then under there are 3 positions HP/FR/LP what would that be put to?

Normally I'd say FR for full range, but I dunno about this mixed mono mode stuff yet. I can't imagine you'd be able to use the builtin crossover, but nor can I imagine a very practical way to output three different signals from a two channel amp.

EDIT: Ok now I see. Yes you would want to set the crossover for FR if your amp even supports this mixed mono. And you would NEED to use a separate passive crossover in line with the sub.

Correct.

I have seen people run 12+ speakers on a single hi-current 2-channel 25x2 amp using this style configuration.

You should consult the MTX manual or website to see if it supports mixed-mono mode. If it does, they should have wiring diagram information. I would say scrap the 4-speaker + sub idea due to impedance. Yes, you would need to buy a low-pass filter for the sub in that configuration.

I'm not sure a passive X-over or low-pass filters would be able to handle 600watts...You may want to just spring for another amp, and use the built in x-over; it will make your system sound 10x better! It doesnt have to be a 4-channel, you could run the doors/rear deck in parallel with a 2-channel amp. You could use the head deck for the mids/highs and the MTX for the sub until you get the additional amp.

To do 4 speakers, you would just hook the two left up to the left output, and the two right up to the right output. You'd need to know the ohm rating on the speakers and the ohm rating on the amp.

If you run the two positive leads of say an 8ohm speaker together and the two negatives together, you end up with a 4ohm load. If the amp is a 4ohm stereo amp you're good, which most all amps are. If the ohm level was under the amp rating, you would overload the amp and couldn't do it.

A passive crossover is a separate crossover that you wire in line between the speaker and amp. It is something you would buy separate. The kind you'd buy depends on if you're running highs, midrange, midbass, or sub bass on those speakers.
