Howdy,

Sorry for the kinda vague post, but I might be checking out an '01 soon.

I'm familiar with the strut tower and gas filler tube recalls - I assume the Q's were included in both. If addressed, they are easy to inspect visually anyways.

The 3.5 has that swirl valve thing, if checked/corrected at a dealer (and paper work is available) - is it guaranteed?

Also, was there some issue with the 'o1 spark plug things (Coil pack?)?

I imagine it will be simple to see if the heat/AC works at all levels, if only "High", then I think that's an <100$ do it myself fix.

HID's - do '01 Q's have them?

Edit adding - do 16" pathfinder wheels fit qx4's? (I have an extra set...)

Thanks!

If the build date is 08/00 or newer, coil pack issues are much less common.

The HVAC control problem you describe only applies to manual A/C controls, and I believe all QX4s have automatic climate control, naturally, since they're luxury vehicles.

I don't think all QX4s come with HIDs from the factory.

As for power valve screws, the dealer can apply threadlocker for $300-ish, or you can DIY it (it's really not difficult).

Check condition of all fluids. Look under the radiator cap to see if there's any crud in the radiator neck. Crawl underneath and check for leaks and grease leakage.

If the QX4 has 105k miles or more, see if the spark plugs were replaced around this time, using NGK PLFR5A-11.

The Infiniti dealer can give you a printout of all service records if you provide a VIN, but I don't think this is a wise idea if you don't actually own the vehicle, heh.

Not sure about the wheels, sorry.

I'm probably gonna think of more things to check, so I'll reply if I do.

I assume 01 is the same as 02. 02 has a standard 16" wheel. 17" is an option. Mine is 17" and I haven't seen an QX4 with 16" wheel when I was buying in 2002.

Thanks for the replies, appreciate it!

It has 127K, and is listed for $5000. Price seems very good to me, provided it doesn't have issues...

I'm checking it out Tommorow (Sat9/29) if any more ideas...

I just bought an 01 QX4 4x4 for $5900. Has 147k miles, interior is perfect, paint needs a good detail and minor paintless dent removal, steering rack is leaking, SES for #3 misfire (coilpack or plug, not sure yet) but drives great. Not sure of the actual color but it's kind of a sage green. It's for the wife, we had an 01 Pathy 4 years ago and foolishly sold it, she's been bugging for another one since so we found this one. Guy had it listed for $7000 and got him down to reality and made the purchase. You'll find one, they're out there.
