Hi my name is Shawn I am looking at buying a 2010 Nissan 1.8S Versa Hatchback with the 6 speed manual. I have never owned a Nissan before. I was wondering how reliable these cars are? I drive about 35K miles a year so reliability is a big thing.

Thank you for your time.

There are quite a few members on here with very high miles on their Versa's and I think they have had no major problems. One owner here has 3 Versa's in his family, none with problems - besides the FPR.

Mine is over 2 years old now, 34K on the clock, and nothing major has needed to be changed. I had the FPR changed under warranty, and my sunroof was adjusted last year. Other than that, the car rides beautifully :D

Hey Shawn, welcome to the forum.

So far, with the Versa is it's 4th year, it's been pretty reliable. As iluv posted, we have members with over 200,000 miles so far and little problems. If you want hard data, check out the "sign up if you're new" sticky to read about the reliability mkaresh keeps up with. His site can give you a breakdown of the various years and their reliability.

I am about to turn 24,000 miles in 13 months, but I was out of the country for 3 months last year. I've had one visit to the dealer for the Fuel Pressure Regulator service bulletin. it's been hit or miss with different people, but it takes about two hours for the dealer to fix if yours had it. Otherwise, enjoy it if you buy.

31000 no problems. awsome car. I've had 3 nissans(2maximas and a versa), my dad 1(pulsar from 86-03), grand parents a few, and I would recommend one no questions :mike

Mine turned 36,000 miles today. It was delivered in July 2007 with a defective battery that was immediately relaced by the dealer. It has an ongoing slow leak in the driver's door shorting out the beeper inside that the dealer has been unable to fix after repeated tries. That problem appears to be limited only to my individual car; no one else has had the same problem that I know of. Other than that the car has been mechanically flawless. No fuel pressure regulator problem here.

Most of my miles are city/suburban driving but the car has been on a road trip from here in California to Florida and back with no issues whatsoever.

about to hit 60000km, no problems as of yet except for the snapped line for the gas-hatch release. :werd:

As the member with the three Versas in the family (108k, 62k and 31k miles right now) the only thing I would add is that as I also drive 36k miles a year, I'd hate to think of doing it with the manual transmission. It runs at higher rpm's than the CVT, and the CVT is SO nice! Unless you're doing all those miles at lower speeds, if there's any way you could swing it I think you might be happier with the CVT and still get decent mileage.

(I should add that my first Versa was my first car ever without a stick, having put about 750k miles on various cars with manual transmissions.)

Welcome, Shawn.
Get the stick! Get the stick! Get the stick!
There are many happy CVT drivers, and are reliable, but i wouldn't get one if my leg fell off. The 6sp shifter is sweeter than my buddy's old Sentra SE-R 5sp and my old Sentra XE, as nice as my old VWs, and leagues ahead of all Toyotas I have rowed. Reliability? When the horn went on the Sentra, I used the rev limiter instead. Over 3000000km when sold [A/C died] to next happy owner. Nuff said.
Can I be honest about drawbacks?...
I wish it were a G35 wagonish-hatch thing, but get turbo-diesel fuel economy :lolling:
Solution? Buy Versa!

My brother has an 09 SE-R CVT model with paddle shifters! Now that is a sweet car ... too big for my liking, but it drives like a dream!!!!

He used to drive a stick car but he commutes Toronto bound daily so he was sick of being stuck in traffic with a manual car. But he has the paddle shifters in the car in case he wants to have some fun with it, lol ...

If I had lots of T.O. traffic or border crossings [did you drive the V to Buffalo for school?], then I would consider a paddley-waddley thing or a cvt. But I still have two legs so Long Live the Stick!

Lol! Yes my previous car drove me to St. Catharines for 4 years (to Brock); and then when I got my Versa it was right before I started teacher's college in Buffalo. So I drove the Versa for a year to the US.

And my brother drives the other way to work, and will be moving to Ottawa shortly. The CVT was the best option for both of us. Plus, now that he has the CVT I can drive it :) He let me test it out the day he picked it up! Boy does the car have some guts :D

I was thinking to buy the SE-R but for some reason I just liked the versa better. On the versa IMO auto sucks, 6sp is ok but the car need more power to pull one off, and cvt was my favorite. :bigthumb:

Ya the SE-R is really a beautiful car, and when I'm in it, it honestly does feel more solid than the Versa. But, I really wanted a hatchback, and the Versa is cute and small. I find the SE-R to be quite big to drive. But it's got a lot of power to it. And yes, the CVT is fantastic :D
