I recently just got my sr20det powered s13, and its got some mods, but now I need some consult software, or something to diagnose it. I hear about consult 2, and even consult 3. Is there anyway to use these newer consults on a sr20det redtop? Also, how much can you really diagnose, like can you check why its smoking etc. What would you guys say is the best consult package available. I see a lot of stuff about free consult software, where in the world is it, is it any good? I prefer cheapest I can get, but I also want the best, so the cheapest of the best if you will.

Totally new to all this, but I really wanna get my car running good.

Ohh, and would a super apexi neo eliminate the need for consult software, or do I need both to diagnose and tune.

Thanks a ton.

There are Daughterboards available wich when installed in the ECU will be hard wired to the Tx and Rx data lines for datatransfer and logging capabilities. This will allow you to get software similar to consult. Nissan data-scan or ConZult is pretty cheap I beleive $25-$30. The boards are $150 but allow eeprom tuning wich is much better than an AFC.

The software allows you to log current sensor and engine data as well as check MIL codes. This is a great way to diagnose problems if you know proper specs since you can monitor what is in or out of spec. Mechanical problems such as an internaly worn motor which is burning oil calls for a test i.e. leakdown or compression test since mechanical wear is not electronicaly detectable or monitored by any sensor or device.

These are not my products but I use them for ROM tuning and if you have any questions about them or want me to put something together for you I would be more than happy to. I would much rather see people running a setup like this than an AFC. With a setup like this you will have data monitoring as well as an editable computer and a ROM tune for a little less than a simple replacement tune from enthalpy or JWT wich cost $500-$600 and may still require fine tuning with an AFC.

you can check codes by turning the knob on the ecu. it is probbaly smoking because it is running rich. at my work we have consult 2 and 3. 3 wont work and consult 2 has an adapter that will plug into obd1 cars. you can check codes with it and thats really about it
