So there are a bunch of threads about people making transmission adaptor plates to bolt various gearboxes to the vh.

my question is, when making a transmission adaptor plate, how do you ensure that the input shaft of the gearbox which you are using will align with the engine side of things (clutch assembly to centre on the flywheel)?

do you just measure very carefully using verniers? what are the consequences if your measurements are slightly inaccurate?

same sort of thing applies to the people who have modified their bellhousings... how have you measured the whole thing up and how accurate were you with the measurements?

Cheers

Probably the best way to do it to make sure you dont screw it up (the way I would ahve done it if I didnt get ultra lucky).

Make a plate using the Q45 bellhousing. Bolt that plate to the engine then slide the trans onto the input shaft, and mark the holes. Drill and then you dont worry about having to measure and no fuss.

I am pretty sure on both of the bellhousings the crankshaft is in the middle of the circle, so thatd be another way to do it if you have 2 bellhousings.

I cut out 2 pieces of the Q bellhousing and cut out similar pieces on my Z trans. Then manhandled the transmission into the pilot bushing and knew it was centered. Then I made the Q pieces fit and bolted them in. Then I started welding until I could unbolt them and finish welding.

BTW, welding aluminum with a mig really sucks and turned out like sheyite. It worked though and I can stand on the trans and jump up and down so it's a victory I guess.

Run a 1997-2001 VH41DE or a VK45DE and you can just use a 6speed from a 2005+ Nissan Frontier, Pathfinder, or Xterra, plus the same pattern is used on the VQ35HR and VQ37HR.

The VQ40DE in the truck was actually the first of the heavy duty or HR (high rev) VQ engines which use the VK trans pattern, and have semi closed deck blocks. I am willing to bet the new VR series engines use the same pattern. From a manufacturing standpoint this makes a lot of sense for Nissan.
