Well, Im doing a good bit of body work on my 240.. beginning a project Sileighty, and over the next month I will be doing all my bodywork myself... at the end of the month, Im taking it to be painted. My question... is Krylon Primer good enough? I dont have access to a sprayer or any of that, so it seems like the most viable choice so I dont have to keep getting it professionally taped and sprayed with primer. I'm not doing flat black... my question is though, primer is primer, right? Any experiences with this? Also, which color if Im painting it a bay side blue? Will dark gray give the same effect as light gray? Im also curious as to WHY on all of this, not just some general answers if you body pros could help.

well i work at a paint and body shop as a helper and i also paint parts of cars like bumpers, fender, ect. i just finished primering my 240 and i used sherwin williams dark grey primer. since u dont have access to a spray gun are u going to use primer in a spray can??? the darker the primer is, the better the basecoat paint will cover. my advice is to get good quality primer and spray it on with a spray gun. u can have problems later on like the paint lifting if u use crappy primer.

Well, I didnt mean a cheap primer, I meant a duplicolor or Krylon primer. And spray canning it ISNT the cheap route, its just the easiest for ME. The only difference in a spray can and a spray gun is the means by which the primer is applied, as long as both brands are of same quality... thats my logic anyways.

Why is it though, that darker primer works best? Even on light colors?

the darker primer works best because when you apply it, its much easier to see imperfections in the body work than if u are using a light primer. also, the paint covers much easier on dark primer. i cant tell u much on spray can primer becuase i never used it, but it seems much easier if u primer a car with a spray gun. thats just my opinion.
