Finally found a place where some people own this car.My odometer light is on but no numbers show up,my power mirrors do not work, how do you get the door panel off?Passenger side window will go down when I use the center console but will not go up.Aside from that my 91 Q45 is the best 5 grand I have ever spent no problems mechanically, yet??

Sounds like someone had your dash apart and didn't plug everything back in when they reassembled. If you pull the armrest to the rear and lift it off, you'll uncover the bolts that hold the door panel on. Window regulators that connect the motor to the window are relatively fragile plastic and they break, but aren't too expensive to replace. Kind of labor intensive though. Do a search on instrument panel removal, there is a good illustrated checklist to get into your dash.

Glad you found us, NYCQ45. Hope you read the previous posts to learn about your car.

If I were you, I would start with a search on "timing chain guides" before I ever started my car again.

I am glad you found us and that you are happy with your Q.Here is an older article on early Q's, which is still current:

The above link is about the main issue surrounding Q's.Sorry 'bout teh bad news, but we all been there and were better and happier for doing it.

welcome to NICO! i'm also a pretty new member to this site and a new owner of a 90Q. like yourself, happy beyond belief with the performance, style, and comfort of the Q(especially the performance, never cease to amaze everyone who jumps in to take a spin!!). finding the site was the best thing, and learning all you need to know about the Q is THE best thing you can do to getting the most out of your Q. you WILL learn about proper maintenance. it makes all the difference in the world. look into right now, make that yesterday, the chain guides, a transmission flush, and changing all the fluids. do a search for all info. in regards to your odometer, i'm having the same problem(although i'm planning on keeping her til whenever, might not spend the $ fixing). after getting the guides done it stopped working, then started rolling again the next time i started it up. worked fine the next few times i drove it then stopped again over the weekend. scottsdale will sell you a replacement for about $230. if you plan on keeping the car could probably keep track of the miles with one of the tripmeters...... congrats on your Q and good luck!!! jeff

Wow kinda makes me feel crazy to have bought this car.I redid the interior(used front and backseats) for some reason all Q's seats are very worn and falling apart why is that? You would think a car that cost over 38 Gs when new would have better seats and made a little better. But then again I had an 89 Nisan Maxima and was suppose to change the timing chain at 60k miles and i never did and it ran strong til I sold it (175000K).If it goes well Im not going to put money in it just get another and take it as a loss.My parents always told me to research before you buy.Oh why didnt I find this board before I bought it.

NoNo :nono

Dont feel like that, we love our cars :cuddleYou can always get the guides done most of us have.As for the seats they are actually very long lasting if given a little bit TLC.

Also this doesnt really change the character of your purchase. It's only marginally more at $1200 than a couple of timing belts.

Also it involves taking some care of oil pump chain and oil pump chain tensioner, something that needs to be done anyway on any higher mile car.

i agree with fred, the Q is a great a purchase, and now that you know what is needed to keep it running well,,,,,you're ahead of the game. i think the first thing to tell yourself is..i didn't buy a toyota tercel, that might not need any type of maintenance for years to run well. this is coming from experiance, i had a tercel, with a girlfriend who was always too busy to get an oil change. the thing ran like a top, no problems, but was a tercel....another way of saying BORING!!!!!!

bro, you have one of the best performance sedans EVER!!! you will have to treat it with the respect it deserves!!! if that means investing a little now to get years of "seat of your pants fun", so be it(at least that's how i feel).

BTW my Q is a 90 and looks almost brand new,,,people couldn't believe it was more than 3 or 4 years old!!! the leather in mine is incredible....get some lexol or zymol leather cleaner/conditioner.

i hope you "come around to my way of thinking"(anyone remember "urge overkill"---how about-"girl, you'll be a women soon" from the pulp fiction soundtrack-yea, urge too),,,,,sorry for all that!!!!!

hopefully this inspires you to give your Q the love and devotion she desevers. The Q is definitly not the low maintenace girlfriend the masses desire. The Q is the super hot, fast, mysterious girlfriend everyone wishes they had!!!!! jeff

forgot something with all my rambling!!! email me if you are interested in getting the guides done. i got mine done by a super qualified master infiniti tech in NJ who now owns his own shop,,,in other words, CHEAPER!!!! if you plan on keeping the car, it's the first thing you should consider.

the shop is Vanmeter Auto in Mantua NJ. ask for keith, tell him you're a member of NICO and jeff recently had his guides done. he'll take care of you.jeff
