I want to start by apologizing for putting this string in a number of the engine forums. I'm not trying to be obnoxious I just didn't know exactly where to post this question.

So here it goes...

I have seen a lot of problems and questions centered around the 240sx's MAF sensor being VERY sensitive. To the point of even being disrupted by a new intake system.

Is there a fix to this?

Once when I was browsing these forums I saw something about converting to a MAP sensor ( ? ) but I cannot find it again...

Is this really an option?

Are there other conversion options?

What is the cost, labor, and actual benefit of converting away from MAF?

Thanks for any help

Sounds like you really just need to change to a custom program ECU that uses another MAF (check JWT), What kinda application are you using this for, is this a Boosted 240SX?Either way I don't think you can just swap in a MAP sensor and get ti to behave like the stock MAF, if you want to switch to a MAP your going to need a new ECU tune (stand alone or what ever), and if your running large boost you'll need a beefy MAP like a GM 3-bar or something. The only other thing is wiring it in and teein a vac line off the manifold.-James

I think the (discontinued?) HKS VPC would also be a quick solve for the problem because it replaces the MAF. The hard part is finding one for the SR, HKS says they retail for about $750, though if you track ebay I have seen Japandy sell a few in the past couple months for about $350(used of course).

Thanks for the advice.

At the moment the car is a daily driver and I'm just running the stock KA, since I'm trying to focus what little money I have on the suspension.

My goal here soon is to boost the KA or install an SR (depending on the emissions requirements) and I want to enter into that project knowing as much as I can.

So lest see if I'm interpreting this right...

Would I be right in saying that the problems people have been having with MAF sensors responding to more air is less a problem of the sensor, and more a problem with how the ECU is reading the signal?

Or is the stock MAF just to sensitive?

the first thing they tell people is to unplug the ecu for like 8 hours or whatever to reset it or some s*** like that, but then again, this is the SR forum ;)

Why don't you just buy an Apexi SAFC and Z32 airflowmeter and have a nice day.......;)
