Post

Hi there. I'm new to NICO and have a few questions.

My car is making a gurgling noise when I first start it. Sounds like water moving through hoses. Any ideas?

So my check engine light jussst came on. I have a 1994 Infiniti Q45 V8. Lately when I first start it in the morning (and its cold) I hear a loud screech but it is NOT the same as the belt screech (my belts are all fairly new). Then i will hear LOUD water/fluid sounds going through the hoses. Sometimes when I start to drive, I can still hear it. I just had the transmission flushed. Theres plenty of antifreeze in the resevoir. I check the top of the radiator to make sure antifreeze is going in, and its full. My oil seems ok. Any ideas what this might be?

Welcome to NICO!

The gurgling noise sounds like the your coolant system or possibly heater core needs to be bled. My Q used to do that periodically because for some reason I had trouble finding radiator caps that would last. It was always a simple fix, though: run the car with the rad cap off and the nose uphill for a few minutes. That'll bleed the air out of the system, and you'll be set.

The squealing is hard to nail down without more details. It could be your power steering pump. It also might be a belt tensioner or pulley. Or it could be A/C-related. Make sure your power steering fluid is topped off. Does your car drip any fluids when parked?

Yep... top off the coolant at the filler neck (not radiator) - the one closer to the middle of the engine bay after the engine is dead cold. That should get rid of the gurgle.

The squeal is probably a seizing idler pulley. It'll cause even a new belt to squeal. You'll see it more in cold weather. Remove the belts, spin the idler pulley wheels, and listen for any noise and harshness. Replace as needed.

Good luck!

Heath
