So I am getting ready to pull the trigger on a new 2012 Nissan Rogue SL, but I have a few questions that the dealer was unable to answer.

Short story:
I recently moved from Florida where the roads are smooth and flat to Virginia where the roads are less than optimal to drive my 350z without hitting a pot hole the size of a small child. To top it off it when it snows the roads do not always get paved. So I started looking for a new vehicle and after much consideration I came back to Nissan (3rd vehicle). The rogue seems perfect for what I want (decent MPG, clearance, interior, etc.) so I went and test drove one as well as the Murano and the Juke. While the other two are very nice rides, one was too small and the other was edged out by the fuel efficiency.
I did read about the CVT noise, but in both of the rogues I test drove (both at low and high speed) I did not hear anything. I asked the dealer about this and he said that Nissan had fixed this with the 2011 and was non existent in 2012 models. While mulling it over another gentleman looking at the rogue said that he was holding off for the 2013 models because of the Turbo edition. The dealer seemed puzzled and could not find any information about this. Outside of one website I have not been able to find anything about this either.

So my questions if you wouldn't mind answering are as follows:
1.) Does anyone who has a 2012 know if the CVT noise has been eliminated?
2.) Does anyone know if there is a 2013 coming out with a turbo? If so would you mind showing me where Nissan or facts of this are coming from?
3.) I have an Android phone, I have searched through the site but I don't see where the Nav kit will work with an Android phone. Does anyone know if there is a firmware upgrade for the USB connection to read, or will I have to get an aftermarket head unit?
4.) How hard would it be to put an automatic liftgate system on the Rogue?

Please accept my apology if any of these questions have been answered and I did not use the search correctly to find my answers and Thank you to anyone who responds to my answers.

1) They are different thread about the CVT noise. Some are du to gear change or something like that, but not for everyone. I have a Rogue 2009 and I didn't have this problem. Others find that the CVT, even when it's normal, they found this noisy. If you test drive is succesfull, stay with this idea.

You mentioned about the fuel consumption and I'm sorry to tell you that, but if you want the AWD, the consumption is high. My Rogue have an everage of 12-13L/100km and I don't drive crazy, 60% town, 40% highway (110km/h). I think the 2.5L is soo too limit for the size and weight of the Rogue.

Thank you for the response Koolyce. I did go through the fuel consumption logs and I see that it varies. I did come from several sports cars (350Z Nismo) being the last one, so I've dealt with bad fuel consumption. However 17-19mpg seems far below the advertised consumption. May I ask if you are in a warm climate or doing altitude driving?

Hi there Descryption,

1) There isn't a CVT "noise", period. Any information on this is being misinterpreted. Like any vehicle there was some cases of bad CVT transmission's in the first model year 2008. The defective CVT's would get noisy before having to be replaced, but this was not a "normal" noise, the vast majority of Rogue's had not trouble and the CVT was completely quiet. By 2009 model year and beyond the incidences of defective CVT's were all but eliminated, again the issue wasn't that all Rogue's had noisy transmission's, this is competely false. The Nissan Rogue has proven to be an extremely reliable vehicle overall, even the 2008 models are still rated much higher than average in terms of reliability by reliable sources such as TrueDelta, Consumer Reports, Edmonds, etc.. To suggest that thousands of vehicles over 5 model years were sold with a transmission that rattles makes no sense at all and is not supported by any credible information. Also consider that the Rogue powertrain is shared with the Nissan Altima which is one of Nissan's biggest sellers, and it has been a very trouble free vehicle as well.

2) The redesigned Nissan Rogue has been much anticipated and should be released at an upcoming auto show, possibly Geneva in April, until then we only have general statements from Nissan to draw on. Likely the redesign will be released as a 2014 model although earlier reports did indicate a 2013 model. The new Rogue will have a new powertrain, likely a small dispalcement turbo as an option around 1.8 or 2.0 L most likely. I would guess that also the current 2.5QR engine will continue as the base powertrain at least initially but it may get re-worked as well. All engines will be mated to a CVT transmission most likely, the chances of a manual trans are probably very close to nil. We will have to wait a few more months for more details.

Our 2008 doesn't have this problem either. I'd second kerrton's comment on this matter.

Paved roads are still paved after snow. They may not be plowed...

Point taken, sorry I didn't think my statement out before typing it.

The MPG is related to your driving style mostly.
I have a 08 Rogue AWD and using scangauge2 to monitor the MPG
I know very well that if you drive smooth, you can get around 25 - 26 mpg and sometimes as high as 30 mpg
but if you don't, (fast start, rpm above 2500, speeding, etc), you will most likely get like 17 - 21 mpg

It also does related to the weather(temperature) Winter usually get lower mpg than summer

Interesting. I have another question if you people don't mind me asking. Actually its two. Should I start a new thread to ask questions or is it ok to post the new question here? I do not want to clutter the thread up and I kind of feel my question is going to be mistaken the wrong way?

My question is this. Has anyone owned a FWD and then switched over to the AWD? I went through a majority of the fuel logs posted in this forum and I honestly have a scatter map with both the AWD and FWD at the low end of the fuel efficiency (between 15 and 18mpg) and at the upper end (27-30mpg). With that said I also noticed more AWD responses so I am kind of curious if anyone has "upgraded" and noticed a difference.

I would keep a very close eye on the new 2013 Altima and Sentra. They should be revealed this spring. Whatever engine powers these models will most likely appear in the Rogue as well.

I highly doubt we will ever see a manual transmission in the Rogue. There simply isn't a market for it. Most of the other vehicles in this segment have dropped the manual trans option save for the 2013 Mazda CX-5, Kia Sportage, VW Tiguan... and even then it's only available on base models.

I drove in Montreal, Quebec, so I have winter. I did different test and honestly, even if I drive smooth on the highway, summer or winter, with or without AC, my consumption is always over 10L/100km.
