Thanks Ilyakol! I guess the the other members Ive seen post that purchased these springs are no longer around.IlyaKol wrote:Not many people run this setup that I've seen post...so your responses may be limited. I would say it'll do what you want though.
Wow thanks for the info Freddie! I'm glad you posted this! Looks like its coilovers for me...06M4.5 wrote:You'll need an alignment 30 days or 1,500 miles after install. This gives the spring time to settle.
Most don't run this set up because of price![]()
H-Tech are less but don't give a big drop but they're are really nice
Pending mileage on your M you may need to replace the struts/shocks when installing lowering springs. Thus the reason most go with coilovers, being able to adjust the height you want is priceless.
Installation pending on your area will be $300 - $400
I say if you have the tools, space & a few good friends do it yourself and save some money. A case of beer some hot dogs & burgers go a long way
What kind of height issues did you have?IlyaKol wrote:Honestly, I got my coilovers for just under $1,000 and I needed struts/shocks anyway like Freddie said. I had some issues with ride height and Freddie even got on the phone with me in an effort to assist but in the end I ended up having a local shop adjust the height.
The install itself was fairly straight forward and you can see the write ups in the FAQ thread of my signature.
Thanks for the response Sugars.sugars wrote:I had that springs, the front drops about 1.2 and the rear a little lower. The ride is just like stock.
Awesome! Thanks for the response Ross!!ross6200 wrote:I have had the espilir springs on my X for about 2 years, and they are well worth it. Totally changes the look and feel of the car. The drop is about 1-12 inches in back and 1-1/4 inch in front. Ride quality is almost identical to stock. Nice and smooth but noticeably better in the corners. No rubbing (up, down or at full steering lock). However, my exhaust will scrape the bottom of my driveway and some other steeply graded areas. Not terrible as long as you approach slowly. With 2+ adults, this can be a bigger problem. However, it's never caused any real damage to the exhaust. I paid $4000 for the install....but well worth it for he better look and handling, IMO. Add an alignment to the total cost, for sure.
Note that I have 20x9 wheels on my car, and have no issues. I imagine anything wider might have rubbing issues. But 20x9 is a perfect fit with the lowered chassis. If you go wider, you'd have to play with camber, which looks dumb and compromises handling.
Lastly, I have about 100,000 miles on my car, and I am still on the original shocks. But if/when they go, I may go to adjustable coilovers, since the cost should be about the same as if I purchased shocks and spring separately.
